Best movies about best lady-friends

Be your own Valentine? Why, yes, you should! And so will we. Join us for a month of #ILoveMe, small steps and little victories in being good to you.

Some love stories sweep you off your feet, others end in heartbreak. But the best kind of stories share a different type of love that we could all use more of. Curl up on the couch with a partner or just your-fabulous-self and press play on a movie that has the only flawless love story plot line: adventures with your best lady-friend. Here are our picks for the 21 best movies that highlight all the ways BFF love is the perfect love story.

Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion (1997): They’re a little weird and that’s why we love them! Romy and Michelle are best friends who meet in high school and are now heading to their high school reunion. Facing off against popular kids, past crushes, mean girls and even each other, Romy and Michelle rule the school.

Clueless (1995): As if there was ever a more perfect pairing than Char and Dion! The clothes! The quips! The quotable one-liners! These two prove that sometimes it’s only your best friend who can help get you through high school. Sure, they lose their way (didn’t you and your best high school bud?), but they find their way back to each other just in time.

Little Women (1994): Sisters make the best friends of all time, and these classic characters brought to life bond through death, illness, marriage and hopefulness for a better tomorrow.  They make all of us want to be one of the March sisters.

Pitch Perfect (2012): Aca-scuse me? If you haven’t seen this movie, prepare yourself for some catch phrases that will change the way you speak. These quirky characters may seem like unlikely friends, but once they find some middle ground and start listening to each other, this group of women harmonize beautifully (and hilariously).

Thelma and Louise
(1991): Finding someone who will do anything for you is hard, but this unique friendship shows it’s not impossible. These besties break away from their mundane lives and quickly see how much living there is to do and how far they’re willing to go to keep each other safe.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2005): It’s the first summer they have to spend apart, but this group of four best friends won’t let distance keep them from feeling close. They all have their own uniqueness, including different body shapes and sizes, and their differences are what makes their friendship stand out as unbreakable. With the use of a great pair of second-hand jeans, they make a promise to not let the summertime distance keep them from each other.

Charlie’s Angels (2000): Women kicking butt together takes this TV-show remake to a whole new level.  It has all the action we could ask for, funny one-liners and women who help build each other up. It will give you all the happy feels without being too sappy.

Calendar Girls (2003): When something seems too scary or too risque to participate in, who else could talk us into it than our best friends? Following best friends who seek to raise money for a cause close to their heart, they show that thinking outside the box often works.

The Help
(2011):  Racism, sexism, classism – two housekeepers in 1960’s Mississippi see each other through the toughest of circumstances of the times, all while a young Southern society woman chronicles it all in her quest to become a writer. Her own friendships begin to fall apart as her bond with the housekeepers in her town grows. At the center, the love, care, laughs and sobs shared between the two maids will make you gasp, tear up and feel heart-tugged over and over.

Bridesmaids (2011): Life is not always easy. Or pretty. Sometimes, despite the complete-horror level of embarrassment, all you can do is laugh — at your best friends and at yourself.  There are no picture-perfect friendship portrayed here. But there is lots of potty humor, sex jokes, ’80s ballads and moments you and your lady-friends will relate to.

A League of their Own (1992): There’s no such thing as a “man’s game only” and this group of super athletic women take all those nay-sayers to task. These women see each other through the celebratory good times and stand with their teammates when the times get hard. There may not be any crying in baseball, but these women sure show friendship can help you get through anything.
