Treatment of Alzheimer’s disease aims to slow progression of it and manage symptoms. There is no cure for Alzheimer’s. Treatment usually consists of medical and functional support, including:
• Taking medications to slow progression of Alzheimer’s or to control symptoms such as sleeplessness or agitation
• Changing the home environment to make it easier to perform activities of daily living, such as removing clutter to keep only necessary objects easily accessible
• Creating a caregiving team that includes a health care professional, family members and friends to help cope with Alzheimer’s disease over a long period of time
• Accessing support groups for caregivers
